Every Friday in school term time Shobdon parents can meet up in the village hall community room to have a bit of adult company and let the children play in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The group has been running since September 2008 and has parents attending with their children ranging in age from very small babies up to 4 year olds. The group has lots of toys and craft equipment which is shared with the preschool. On days when the weather is good the older children can go outside and play on bikes and ride-on toys as well as the big climb on caterpillar.
We are very lucky to be supported by Herefordshire Children's Centre. They fund the group every fortnight, meaning that parents only have to pay a fee of £3 on alternate weeks. They have also helped with extra activities. In February, Herefordshire Nature Trust came for a "messy play" session to which the group invited classes 1 and 2 from Shobdon School. Everyone had a fantastic time making mudpies indoors and playing in hay and water. The Nature Trust are coming back later in the year to help with some outdoor play sessions.
The Children's Centre is also running a 4 week baby massage course. These will be held at the Village Hall starting on Tuesday 21 April 10-11 am. These will help parents learn to massage their babies, promoting bonding and wellbeing, suitable for babies aged 6 weeks to precrawling. It's free of charge!
