Want to influence Council Budget decisions?
Council and NHS seek views on priorities for budgets
A major consultation to determine Herefordshire residents’ priorities for where council and local NHS budgets should be targeted will begin on 14 November.
A series of events will be held in nine areas around the county at which local people will be able to discuss what their priorities are. By holding events in each of the nine nominated areas, known as localities, the individual needs of each area can be discussed, helping local people shape services that are unique to where they live.
At the events, residents, local interest groups and charities will be invited to discuss what their priorities are ranging across health, social care and other local services.
Cllr John Jarvis, Leader of Herefordshire Council, says: “We are facing unprecedented financial challenges amid continuing government cuts and tough choices need to be made. Making sure that our services meet local need and, in particular, protect the more vulnerable in our society is paramount. We need local people to tell us what they think we should be investing in, or making savings from, to make sure we get this right. The events will offer people an opportunity to meet with us and discuss their views. We will also be making all the information available online so that people who are unable to attend the events can send us their views electronically.
“This is the beginning of a big conversation which will help us define our priorities for where budgets should be spent and we hope that as many people as possible will take part in it.”
At the events, people will also be able to find out more information about new health initiatives in the county, including the new ‘health and wellbeing board’, which is tasked with promoting better health in the county and Herefordshire Health-Care Commissioners, the GP led group which will take responsibility for buying local health services in 2013. Members of both health boards will attend the events to discuss issues and ideas with local people.
The events will start with an introduction from senior staff and then will involve a number of questions about local priorities, it is therefore important that people attend from the start of the event if possible.
