One of the Best in the UK
The UK's top 100 local stores were announced today by the Independent Achievers Academy following a massive nationwide mystery shopping exercise and for the 3rd year running Shobdon Post Office & Stores were one of the Best in the UK. Having been runner up in 2 catergories, at the Retail Industry Awards, Aileen & Martin were delighted to see their shop and staff recognised for the high standards they have.
The IAA is the UK's largest independent project aimed at supporting local shops to better serve their communities. Backed by 12 of the UK's largest suppliers of convenience products and services, the Top 100 list celebrates excellent local shops.
"We've had an amazing response this year and standards are higher than ever," said IAA spokesperson Nick Shanagher.
"Consumer surveys consistently show that local shops are rated more highly than supermarkets. And our Top 100 list includes many of the UK's best retailers who are proud to serve their local communities."
The IAA attracted entries from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and 81 of the Top 100 shops have been listed for the first time, reflecting the extensive commitment of local store owners to do a better job for shoppers.
"There was a more competitive edge this year," said Kate Carr, managing director of Field Sales Solutions, which carried out the in-store assessments.
"Last year's entrants have generally raised their game, with better promotions (such as half price rather than 2 for 1 deals), more local sourcing and greater involvement with local communities."
Shops were assessed against the12 Academy best practice principles and mystery shopping visits were conducted throughout August, concluding with a conversation with the retailer. The best practice areas against which the shops were measured were: shop layout; shop presentation; merchandising; effective ranging; availability; technology; customer service; in-store theatre; retail innovation; marketing to customers; service to the community; and staff development.
Aileen said "it was a great achievemnet to acieve Overall Best Shop with the IAA last year, but we are delighted to have maintained our position as one of the best independent stores in the UK."
