Aileen Lovell

Aileen Lovell lost her courageous battle with cancer on the 23rd August 2011 aged 48 years.

Aileen along with husband Martin and 2 of their boys Tom & Chris came to Shobdon Post Office & Stores in July 2004.

Aileen as Sub Postmaster made an immediate impression with her warm and welcoming manner and of course her beautiful beaming smile.

Under their guidance the Store has gone from strength to strength being nominated for and winning many awards including Overall Best Shop at the IAA in 2007.

This was the same year that Aileen was rushed to hospital and following sugery told she had ovarian cancer.

In typical style Aileen took this as both a challenge and an opportunity.

The challenge was to fight an already progressive disease, and the opportunity to cram in as much as possible in however long the fight would last.

Aileen had a distinctly stubborn streak and would not allow her treatment or it's effects get in the way of what she wanted to do, and in the past four years she crammed in a lifetime of memories and experiences.

Martin & Aileen would not have been able to do this without the fantatstic support from all the staff at the shop. Aileen was rightly proud of her shop and particularly her staff. From the outset Aileen wanted to ensure that the shop she had was the sort she would like to go and shop in and that customers felt it was a nice place to be. She succedded and every membewr of the team demonstrate as Aileen wanted, that every customer is important and get a warm and friendly welcome.

In July 2011 Aileen received the news she was expecting that treatment she had been having was no longer working and that the disease was progressing. In typical fashion, Aileen thanked all the clinical team for what they had been able to do for her, namely give her fours years to make wonderful memories.

As hard as the news was to receive, it only spurred Aileen on to finalise all the things she wanted to get done, and although the following weeks saw her become weaker and less able, she completed the tasks she set herself and passed away in the early hours of the morning of the 23rd August happy and content that she had done all she could do.

Martin and the family have been deeply touched by the outpouring of care and sympathy following Ailen's death, and are very grateful to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Aileen Lovell, wife, mother, daughter & friend - she was a huge success in all her endeavours and leaves a huge hole in the lives of a lot of people.

Much loved and never forgotten, her smile will live on in everyone she met for ever.
